My cousin Sara AlGurg from UAE shared a couple of pictures/videos of this beautiful salt & pepper rose cut diamonds on her Snapchat, and I couldn’t resist sharing on my blog
سارة القرق من أهلنا في الإمارات صورت على حسابها في سناب جات مجوهرات بطريقة قطع الروز و كان فيها شوائب بس شكلهم جميل جدا تحت تسمية “ملح و فلفل” – برأيي؟ هذه الشوائب أعتبرها من العيوب اللي تضيف لمسة جمالية لقطع المجوهرات و إن كانت تسمى عيوب أو شوائب
I asked her to send me those snaps along with an explanation of this beautiful flaw! Yes!!! Some flaws are beautiful and add a special “je n’ais se quoi” to such pieces! I am in love.

She explained it to me via WhatsApp… and I am sure I will be talking more about it and other related topics when I see her in person! She is so passionate about diamonds, gems, and jewelry… and I can learn a lot from her (check this post 7 years ago when she introduced me to the Dubai Cut Diamond)
طبعا سولفت معاها بالواتساب و متأكدة إني بسولف معاها أكثر لما أشوفها بإذن الله عن المجوهرات… عندها حب و شغف بهذا العالم الجميل و هي اللي قالت لي عن الألماس بقطع دبي قبل 7 سنوات (الموضوع الكامل على هذا الرابط) و دايما تعطيني معلومات حلوة
So this is basically a rose cut diamond, unlike normal diamonds… it’s flat, hence less priced (well well well.. another reason to love this cut). It doesn’t have a culet (the bottom part of a diamond). They usually make it this way because of the many many impurities it has (beautiful). It’s like having no other choice but making the diamond a rose cut!

They come in almost every shape you can think of… and now, some high end brands started using this cut… they, however, use the one with minimal impurities… making pieces with beautiful slices of diamonds!
