I am back with the Spend & Splurge Vs Steal & Save posts (link) 😉 I hope I can keep up with it this time… Today I have a couple of questions for you! Would you ever buy replicas? Would you spend money on fake items? Don’t you agree that when you spend money on fake replicas its like your putting your money into waste?
While shopping I spotted those two bags;
The one above was spotted in Bershka with a price tag of KD8.500. It is made of leather and was hanged along with lots of bags around – display wasn’t all that! The bag below was spotted in a store called Peacock, and was selling for KD8. It was covered in floral black lace and was smaller in size than the Bershka bag
Of course… both bags are replicas of the famous Chanel flap bag with mademoiselle lock – with and extra two zeros to the right of the KD8 (prices vary as per size, design, edition, material used) – I’m sorry to say this but those are bad replicas because they can never be the same as the real thing! To me, and as I learned from my cousin Laila (who is the biggest Chanel fan I have ever known) a Chanel bag is an investment, and it really is! Why copy such an amazing work like that… even the chains and the famous diamond quilted design! Its an insult to the real authentic Chanel bag 🙁
“A style does not go out of style as long as it adapts itself to its period. When there is an incompatibility between the style and a certain state of mind, it is never the style that triumphs” -Coco Chanel (1883-1971)
Now for extra info I learned mostly from Laila… The quilted design was inspired by horseback riding jockeys – the lock is called Mademoiselle because it reflects on Coco Chanel herself, who in fact was never married 😉 The secret pocket inside was there to keep love letters and the back pocket was there to store extra money. The chains were abundant at the time when she thought of designing the bag (World War II maybe?) and they reminded her of the nuns in the orphanage with their keys in chains when she was a little girl!
